On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, Jerry Lloyd Dowling, devoted husband, loving dad, cherished brother, and adored Papa was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus after 75 years of a fully lived, beautiful life.

Jerry was born July 6, 1946, to Lloyd and Beatrice Dowling in Paris, Texas. Although they preceded him to heaven, along with his brother, Leslie Dowling, they were never far from his mind and heart. 

Jerry was a man of faith whose love and devotion to God was witnessed by all who knew him. He grew up in the Clute/Lake Jackson area and graduated from Brazosport High School. He was a proud patriot and served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1973. Upon discharge from the military, he began a long grocery retail career, managing stores for Weingarten’s, Safeway, Appletree, Fiesta, and Randalls. 

Jerry loved the game of golf, the Dallas Cowboys, classic rock and roll music, and he found great joy in gardening and maintaining his yard, even as he became bed bound in his illness, directing the maintenance from his window.  

Jerry is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathy, daughter Angela Rios and husband Joseph, son Jason Dowling, son Joshua Dowling and wife Desirae, son Ryan Crum and wife Courtney, son Patrick Dowling, and daughter Madison Dowling; nine precious grandchildren, Joseph Rios, Jacob Rios, Alyssa Rios, Joshua Dowling, Alexis Dowling, Johnny Hanham, Camryn Brekeen, Taylor Garcia, and Brody Crum; seven great-grandchildren, Micah, Riley, Lorenzo, Olivia, Wynter, Evelyn and Emma; sisters, Anna Kaye Dowling and Renee Wilson and husband Ken; and cherished honorary family, Silvia and Enrique Balderas, Marcos Arreola, America Balderas, and KJ Balderas.

The family wishes to thank their church family from Bayou City Fellowship for their love and support, as well as the wonderful care from Dr. Magdy Tadros, M.D., and his staff and the nursing team of Brighton Senior Living of Cypress.

A service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 10am in the sanctuary of Bayou City Fellowship Spring Branch at 1400 Brittmoore Road, Houston, Texas. Jerry’s wish was that everyone dress casually, wear bright colors, honor the Dallas Cowboys or their favorite classic rock band, and leave the ties and jackets at home.
