November 29, 1946 – July 19, 2023

William Carlton Hanna, also known as Billy Carl, Bill, Uncle Bill, Monkey Bill, Daddy, and Grandpa, passed away on July 19, 2023, at the age of 76 in Houston, Texas. Born on November 29, 1946, in the Rio Grande Valley, Bill was a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend.

The oldest of five, Bill was always a sweet and mild-mannered person who had a knack for making people laugh with his quick wit. He had a lifelong love for reading, which started at an early age. In school, while his peers were socializing during lunchtime, Bill could often be found in an empty classroom fully engrossed in a new novel. Growing up, he enjoyed being outside, especially spending summers with his grandparents in Kansas or attending Boy Scout Camp. He was always proud of achieving Eagle Scout rank.

Bill graduated from Brazosport High School in 1965 and eventually enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served tours in Korea and Vietnam. After the service, Bill relocated to Houston where embarked on a successful career in the Automotive Aftermarket Industry, which spanned fifteen years. Later, he transitioned to the Industrial Safety field, where he first worked for Vallen Safety and then Dooley Tackaberry, Inc. for over twenty years until his retirement.

When he wasn’t reading or binge-watching his favorite television shows, Bill enjoyed cooking, playing golf, and watching football. He especially loved rooting for the Dallas Cowboys.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Leslie; son-in-law, Ryan; grandsons, Jonah and Ellis; sister, Glory; brothers, David and Thomas; nieces, Pamela and Candace; and nephew, Matthew; as well as his former spouse and friend, Shirley.

He was preceded in death by his father Bill, mother Carlene, aunt Barbara Lou, and sister Catherine.

Bill’s gentle spirit and caring nature will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He never met a baby he couldn’t make laugh. He never left a drive-thru window without asking the person on the other side how their day was going.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Bill’s life and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Wheelhouse of Deer Park, Texas.
