Jimmy Norton

James Edward Norton, Jr. age 66, of Brazoria, Texas was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Jimmy was born on November 26, 1946 in Freeport, Texas to James Edward Norton, Sr. and Margaret Eloise Wisenbaker. Jimmy enjoyed explaining to people that he was born in the original, old, Dow building in Downtown Freeport. As a child Jimmy loved the outdoors. Baseball was important in his early life. Playing baseball on a nearby field was a favorite outdoor activity, even if he were the only one playing. If no one else came to the field to play, he would throw, run, and catch balls himself. As he grew older he played Little League Baseball in Freeport for Coach Box, who was a great influence in Jimmy's life. As a young adult, Jimmy excelled in slow-pitch softball earning several Most Valuable Player and Homerun King Awards. Jimmy was an avid fisherman. He had his own secret redfish holes in the waters along the shore, where he usually caught his limit. Another passion of Jimmy's was restoring and driving his '79 Red Corvette. As a young man, Jimmy went to work for Regal Supply in Freeport, where he worked for 27 years with a friend as close as a brother, Gene Case. When Regal Supply closed its doors, Jimmy and Gene worked together at Lowe's Building Supply in Lake Jackson for several years. Many of the former Regal customers would look for Jimmy and Gene when they came into the Lowe's Store. Jimmy finally retired from McCoy's Building Supply in Richwood after working there for several, fulfilling, years. Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother, Eloise Magouirk; father, James Norton, Sr. and brother-in-law Jimmy Broaddus. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, John and his wife Nancy, Jay and his wife Christy; grandchildren, Tyler Norton, Kaley Browning; great grandchildren, Allison and Cameron Browning; sisters, Linda Hurst and her husband Larry, Celeste Broaddus, Elaine Moreno and her husband Steve; brothers, Larry, Danny and his wife Diane and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmy will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his sense of humor and his smile. He never met a stranger and was quick to engage in conversation (especially about baseball, Corvettes or fishing). "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7 "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Psalm 116:15

Jimmy Lewis

Jimmy was one the best athlete's to ever come out of Brazosport, I used to admire how far he would hit home runs in our almost daily games we had during the summer.  Also one of the nicest guys around.  Spoke with Jim at Lowe's a couple of years ago and he was still the same humble, friendly boy I knew in school.  A special quiet Christian man who I had all the respect in the world for.  Rest In Peace Jim, you will be missed!
