Dale C. Box

Dale C. Box

Dale Chaffin Box, 73 years old, passed peacefully into Heaven on Saturday, January 23, 2021, with his beloved wife, Dee Dee, at his side in their home in Tomball, TX.

Dale was born in East Bernard on March 16, 1947, to Joe & Allyne Box. He was the youngest of six siblings: sisters: Sylvia, Helen, Brenda, & Linda, and wonderful big

brother, Terry.  His family ‘coddled’ him because he was born with a congenital heart defect.  At age 11, his heart valve was amazingly repaired by Dr. Denton Cooley, with Dr. DeBakey assisting!  Dale’s huge heart for others is truly his lifelong ‘gift’!

He grew up in Freeport, TX, & was graduated from Brazosport High School, where he was elated to be on their State Championship Baseball Team in 1964.  His getting a hit off the historic Nolan Ryan @ an earlier age cannot escape this story.  The next time anyone sees Nolan, feel free to mention that special event!

Dale attended Sam Houston University in Huntsville, TX for three semesters, before transferring to the University of Houston, because the Lord designed for him to there meet his bride, Deadria (Dee Dee) Aileen Arnold Green.  She was not yet available, but Dale patiently waited for her.  They were married on December 18, 1971 in her parents’ home.

Dale earned his Psychology degree & became a world-renowned Juvenile Probation Officer for 28 yrs. in Houston, TX. (Shouldn’t every juvenile probation officer be ‘world-renowned’?)  Dale loved well, and he loved big. He loved those hardest to love. Genuinely.  He followed in his Savior’s footsteps doing exactly that!

More easily loved were Dale’s own children: John Byron Box and Brittany Allyne Box Lemmons.  They survive him, along with their families: son’s wife, Sharon; grandsons: Braden Luke & Bryce Andrew; & daughter’s children: Daley Kate, Jacob Brigman, & Greenley Jane.  For the very few of you who never heard, Dale has THE best, most amazing, attractive, smartest, & talented grandkids EVER!

After retiring from his first career, he spent some quality time @ Enron/Minute Maid Park ushering fans, but mostly watching his favorite sport in person. Then he took his huge heart to serve as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines for 17 yrs., a company he wholeheartedly respected.

Above all else, Dale loved Jesus!  The heart God gave Dale, then renewed, beat for the Lord - a legacy for the rest of us for whom his heart beat also.

“Well done, My good and faithful servant . . . Play ball!”

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Faith Center of Houston’s First Baptist Church.

Dale and I got to know each other best by working together at the Freeport Houston Natural Gas for two summers.  We refurbished gaslights.  We reconnected in 1967 by rooming together at the University of Houston.  And little did we know then that our friendship would last the rest of our lives, even though I moved to Georgia then to Tennessee.  Dale had a somewhat reserved demeanor which hid at first blush a dynamic and wonderful sense of humor!  And I was to benefit greatly from Dale's commitment to Christ which shone through his life from the first day I met him.  What a blessing it was share phone calls, shared visits and senses of humor with Dale and Dee Dee all these years.  "Well done, good and faithful servant"!

I met Dale in High School.  I remember playing against him in Junior High Sports.  Dale was a good athlete....he was so proud to be a Team Member on the 1964 State Champions 4-A Baseball Team.  I actually got to know Dale better after I retired in 2009.  Dale and I met for lunch and talked about what we did after High School.  Dale would call a bunch of us to meet at a Cajun Eatery in the Willowbrook Mall area.  Sometimes there were 10 to 12 of us and then a few times we had over 20 people and some classmates from different years.  We had some great times and conversations.  DeeDee was always there and Dale was so in Love with her.  Sometimes Dale would invite the crew over to his house.  Very Gracious hosts....always made you feel welcome.  That was Dale and DeeDee.  RIP my friend.  Miss you
