Lonny Lamb

Joe and I were good friends.  After graduation we hung out together and tried hard to stay out of trouble.  One day in October 1965 Joe wanted to know our chances of getting drafted.  We stopped at a convenience store in Freeport and he said “I’m going to call the Draft Board.”  After explaining to him that calling was a bad idea and making him swear not to tell them my name, he called.  The call went something like this.  I’m Joe Dickson and Lonny Lamb and I would like to know when we might be drafted.  In November we received a notice to report for our Army physical.  After the physical we went to the Air Force Recruiting office and signed up.  I went in on January 16, 1966.  My draft notice arrived on January 3rd.  Joe and I lost touch during that time period.  One day in 2014 thinking about old friends I found Joe’s email address and sent him an email. I told him about the Brazosport65 website and encouraged him to sighup.  I never received a response to my letter, but noticed in his profile he signed up in October 2014.  He was a good friend and will be missed.  There are way too many red roses by the names of our classmates.
