Met Steve in HIgh School.  I first remember Steve in Chemistry I in Mr. Boyer's class.  Mr. Boyer (who's first name was Gilbert)...kept asking Steve if his name was Gilbert Steven....Steve corrected him many times.  Also in Chemistry Class in the first few classes....Steve asked if Krytonite (Superman's downfall) came from the chemical Krypton.  The look on Mr. Boyer's face answered the question....after the class broke up in laughter.  Steve was also a room mate in College at Stephen F. Austin along with Danny Garrett and Charlie Claiborne.  Steve was a hoot to live with....sometimes I thought he was hard of hearing as he was always talking very loud.  We other three room mates soon found out that Steve was not a culinary expert.  He could ruin anything that he was cooking.  One weekend, Steve, Charlie C, Gene Blanchard, Kenny Williams and I took a weekend trip that was to say the least fun filled.  We left Nacogdoches, went to Bars in Louisiana (could buy beer legally at 18), partied at some zydeco bar.  Returned home broke.  Lot of fun times.  Steve's parents had some land outside of Chireno, Texas (close to Nacogdoches) and a cabin.  There were a lot of woodsie parties out there.  No body bothered us as we sat around a campfire and just had fun.  Another adventure I shared with Steve was when Kenny Williams took Steve, Charlie C., and myself to the Nacogdoches Airport.  Kenny rented a Cessna 172 (Kenny had his private pilot license) and we flew around Nacogdoches and the SFA campus.  Kenny then took us up to 2,500 to 3,000 feet and did a power on stall.  I thought Steve was gonna go ballistic.  I admit it was my first stall and not real gung ho about it.  Any way we landed and when Steve got out of plane....he got on the ground and kissed it.  He then said a few expletives deleted and said he would never fly in a small plane again and especially not with Kenny.  Steve was a hoot.  I saw him at the last reunion....had a conversation with him....he seemed so serious.

REST IN PEACE STEVE        PAX VOBIS
