Alan Singleton

Alan Perry Singleton

1947 – 2016

Alan was born to Jack and Roberta Sue Singleton in Beaumont, Texas. However, the family moved to Brazoria County soon after.

Growing up on Oyster Creek provided lots of adventure and discoveries. Soon childhood vanished and graduation day arrived at Brazosport High School, Class of ‘65.

On January 6, 1969, he joined the Army and volunteered for Airborne Infantry. While serving in Vietnam he earned a distinguished record including, but not limited to, the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, Combat Infantry Badge and the Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Badge. The years following were stamped with adversity but always brought out his resilient nature. In fact, he completed his college degree later in life. Alan had a full and rewarding life. He will be missed by many friends and family.

He is survived by his brother, Jack Singleton; his daughter, Tyra Lynn; his grandsons, Dustin and Darren; and his good friends that he considered family, Doug Mashaw, who preceded him in death, and Cindy Mashaw, who helped till the very end.

Alan died of lung cancer on April 19, 2016, at the age of 69.

Farewell my brother.

I knew Alan in Junior High in LJ.  I did not have a lot of contact with Alan, but remember him as kinda quiet.  I want to thank Alan for his service to our country in a time that was not popular to be in the Armed Forces of the United States.  RIP Veteran Alan......you are truly appreciated for what you have done for us.  Later
