John Victor Schmidt

June 19,1947 – August 24, 2023

John Victor Schmidt, 76, of Jones Creek, Texas, passed away peacefully August 24, 2023. He was surrounded by family and friends after suffering a major stroke a few days earlier.

John was born in Palestine, Texas, to Victor and Anita Schmidt on June 19, 1947. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1965, attended Wharton Junior College and graduated from Sam Houston State University. He met the love of his life, Molly Richman in Wharton, Texas. They were married on March 12, 1970, in her hometown of Palacios, Texas. John and Molly made their home in Jones Creek for over 40 years. He served in the Army National Guard Reserves as a young man. He had successful sales and logistics careers followed by 10 years as an Insurance Agent with Texas Farm Bureau where he retired. As a member of the Rotary Club of Brazosport and Freeport Jaycees, John enjoyed actively serving in his community.

John loved spending time with friends and family either at their property on the Brazos River or the Richman family ranch on the Tres Palacios River where he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He hosted the infamous Schmidtstock and Richman Ranch Dove Bust for many years. John was a generous and loving man. He always had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eyes and never missed an opportunity to tell someone that he loved them. All that knew him, loved him.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Anita Schmidt and his brother, Fulton Schmidt as well as his beloved fur babies, Snoopy, Lady, Cody and Lil Bit.

John was a devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife, Molly Schmidt; his brothers, Bill (Ginger) Schmidt and Don (Jana) Schmidt, both of Jones Creek, Texas; his sister, Sue (John) Pennock of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas and his sister-in-law, Susan Barber of Sweeny, Texas, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-nieces, dear friends and his loyal cat, Oscarina.
