Shirley Rehms (Adams)

Shirley Rehms (Adams)

II Timothy 4: 7-8

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing."

Shirley Rehms Adams, 67 years old, of Magnolia, Texas went to be with The Lord Wednesday July 9, 2014. She was born in Bellville, Texas to B.C. and Katie Rehms.

She is survived by her husband, John Adams and her children Shawn and wife Tanya and her daughter Jeanna and husband Justin. She also has four grandchildren.

She loved her husband and children fiercely and with her whole heart. She joyfully taught math to thousands of students and served her church family tirelessly.

“Her children rise up and call her blessed;

Her husband also, and he praises her.

Many women have done exceedingly,

But you surpass them all.”

Proverbs 31:29-30

I feel like I need to comment but I truly have no words.  Shirley's death made me so sad.

I am so sad that Shirley won't get to go home to Johnny and her family.  Her passing will leave a hole in their lives and their hearts that will never really heal but I know that their faith will strengthen them until they meet again.  I'm sure that  Dutch, Katie, and her sister were there to welcome her home.  RIP, Shirley, we will all miss you.

I went to school with Shirley since kindergarden when I was in Mrs. Epp's class.  I don't feel that I knew Shirley really well but I respected her and my best childhood friend Nancy Allinson was very good friends with her so I always heard her name alot over the years.  I am sad for her friends and family to have lost their dear friend and mother and wife and grandmother and classmate.  I think it was Bill Marshall that said in his comment that she was always really fast at things.  I remember that both Shirley and I were very fast in track in high school and I would try with all I had to beat her at the 100 yard dash and never did.  Now her soul is off to it's next journey -- God Bless!!

I only remember Shirley from the 6th grade time frame.  But it is so refreshing to see so many people say such kind and wonderful words about the influence she had on each on those.  When folks can say things about faith, hope and love in the context of the death of a friend there is nothing else to be said of any real consequence.

PEACE! to all those who grieve.

Maybe I will wake up tomorrow and find this is just a sad dream.
Maybe I will hear Shirley's voice on my cell phone tomorrow saying "Nancy" in 3 syllables.
Maybe I'll drive up Winding Way to her house, pick Shirley up to drive out to the Diary Bar.  There we will sit in the car, visit with all our friends, listen to KILT on the radio knowing that we still had to do our "drive bys" before we had to be home by 10:30.  ("Drive by" means driving by the homes of boys we liked or were going with and honking.  Even the houses of some we just thought were "cute.")
Maybe we will participate in just one more basketball, tennis or softball tournament where she would win the MVP for Most Valued Person.  Or the MAP for Most Admired Person.
Maybe Shirley, Janie, Liz and I will be planning our annual fishing trip to Port Bay near Rockport where she usually caught the most fish, even on my granddaughter's little "Dora" rod!
Maybe she will visit me in Devine and go to my Bible study class again.  She was a blessing to each lady in my class through her knowledge of the Bible.
Maybe she, John and I will drive to Ruidosa again to visit John M. and Mimi.  Maybe this time Shirley and I will not be completely hoarse from talking and laughing for the 10 hour drive.  Maybe Shirley will figure out how John M. always wins at "99."
But no, this is not just a sad dream, this is a realization of REDEMPTION!   This precious, dear, beloved friend that I cherished so is now resting peacefully and healthy with our Savior.  Every moment I spent with Shirley was magical.  She had an amazing way of encouraging everyone she knew or met.  You always felt loved, embraced and confident in her presence.  Shirley was very engaging and never met a stranger.  May our Memories of her bring us Joy, and our Faith bring us Comfort knowing that she is smiling down on her family and friends who have been blessed to have had her in our lives.
Thank you with all my heart for your prayers, visits, cards and calls to Shirley and John and their  family.  Reading all your comments and memories bring tears to my eyes but gladness to my heart as you honor our friend.

I had started a "post" yesterday that was becoming very lengthy. However after about 90% complete, I must have clicked a wrong key and I lost that post. In retrospect it may have been just as well as my script  related some personal things that would have probably been boring to most of you. So, briefly, I cannot write anything about Shirley that has not already been written and said. Shirley was always gracious, kind, and humble. At all our HS reunions she never failed to be complimentary with immeasurable sincerity. DeeDee and I were able to get to know Shirley very well after we moved to Tomball 10 years ago. Shirley and DeeDee had a lot in common and became very close friends. We visited Shirley & John in their home and they visited us in our home on numerous occasions. We also shared lunches and dinners with them. I never failed to be in awe of their devotion to the Lord and loved to hear the story of their salvation through Jesus Christ which allowed us to pray and felloship together. Thank you Janie, Nancy, and Betty for being with Shirley on the day she passed from this life to eternal life with Jesus, her Lord & Savior. DeeDee and I visited somewhat regularly and last saw her on the Thursday before she passed away. We told her as we were leaving that we loved her and she, though she could barely speak, told us that she loved us, something I will never forget. Incidently, if any of you get a chance to meet their daughter, don't miss that opportunity. She is just like Shirley! So, good-bye dear friend. Your light will shine forever!

Since I started off at O.A. Fleming in Freeport, I didn't know Shirley from her early years in Lake Jackson; however, when I returned to BHS my junior year, I became acquainted with her.  She was, indeed, a loving, kind person, and a great athlete.  I feel like I've gotten to know her better through all the comments during her illness and afterwards.  Right now, as I battle with Meniere's taking my hearing on the right side (as it took the left in 1995), I'm humbled as to how much I do have to be thankful for and try to accept what the Lord has in store for me....  Prayers for her family.

I remember Shirley from the tennis team and other activities in school.  Her friendliness, compassion and spirit for life with all those around her made her a treasure for all of us and greatly missed.  She will certainly be a treasure in heaven.
